The remote and beautiful Dooey beach is one of Donegal’s hidden gems, facing westwards into the Atlantic and stretching for around 3 kilometres. It’s generally considered safe to swim and surf here, but caution is advised as there are no lifeguards on duty (and jellyfish are quite common in the warmer months!)
Swimming at Dooey Beach is generally considered safe. However, with no lifeguards and given the remoteness of this spot caution is advised. You may also need to watch out for jellyfish in the summer as they can be quite common.
Facing westwards into the Atlantic means Dooey Beach is exposed to the brunt of the Atlantic wind and waves. This is often great news for surfers and can also make for some bracing walks through the dunes.
